The 2007 Subaru Impreza is available in four model lines as both a sedan and a wagon. The Impreza 2.5i (sedan and sport wagon) starts from $17,995. The Outback Sport (wagon only) has a base MSRP of $19,195. The WRX (sedan and wagon) begins at $23,995 and the WRX STI sedans open for $33,495.
The 2.5i and Outback Sport are powered by a 173 hp, 2.5-liter Subaru Boxer engine producing 166 lb-ft. of torque at 4,400 rpm. The WRX has a 224 hp, 2.5-liter, DOHC engine that features both inter-cooling and turbo-charging technology, and delivers 226 lb-ft. of torque at 3,600 rpm. The WRX STI jumps to a 293 hp, 2.5-liter engine pumping out 290 lb-ft. of torque at 4,400 rpm. (All the Outbacks have Subaru's default all-wheel drive.)
The 2.5i has an estimated fuel efficiency of 22 mpg city and 29 highway with a manual transmission; 23/28 with the automatic. At the top of the line the WRX STI Limited (with only 800 in production) gets 19/25 (manual transmission.)
With sport-designed seating and instrumentation (including silver gauge trim rings on the high-end models), the 2007 Subaru Impreza answers dual needs -- the practicality of a wagon or family sedan married to the heart-pumping power of a sports car.
