Over the next few weeks Chrysler LLC will begin a series of assembly plant shut downs to limit the company's production in response to sagging sales and an overall tightening of the economy.
Quoting sources from the United Auto Workers, Automotive News is reporting that the company's Warren Truck assembly plant located in Warren, Michigan will close for a month or more in a move described as "volume-related downtime."
Workers will leave the plant on Friday, December 21 and are not slated to return to their jobs until February 4, 2008 according to the report.
Additionally, the Jefferson North Assembly facility in Detroit and the one in Windsor, Ontario are set to become idle on January 14 as per information supplied in The Detroit News. The Jefferson North closure will last three weeks, Windsor two.
In addition to these closures, shift cuts and lay-offs are expected to begin in February although these moves were not confirmed by spokesmen from Chrysler.
The facilities effected in this round of shut-downs construct the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Commander, the Chrysler Town and Country, and the Dodge Grand Caravan.
