The bi-annual Tokyo Motor Show will be held next week, showcasing the latest offerings from the three major Japanese automakers and introducing concept vehicles to the world.
Honda, Nissan, and Toyota traditionally use the Tokyo Motor Show as a platform to introduce both new vehicles and new and innovative technologies.
Held in Chiba, outside Tokyo, the event opens to the press Wednesday, October 24 and to the public Saturday, October 27.
Among the concept vehicles that will be on display are the Toyota i-REAL, a vehicle reminiscent of a wheelchair that can be driven on both sidewalks and roadways, and the Nissan PIVO electric vehicle that is shaped like an egg and has a revolving cabin.
More conventional vehicles that will be displayed include the re-tooled Nissan GT-R sports car, the Honda CR-Z gasoline-electric hybrid, and the Toyota FT-HS a hybrid sport concept capable of generating 400 horsepower.
The Tokyo Motor Show began in 1954 as the All Japan Motor Show when it was primarily a platform to display commercial vehicles with passenger cars accounting for less than 10 percent of the displays.
The growth and dominance of the global Japanese passenger car industry changed the show into one of the most important events in the automotive world.
