With the 2008 Los Angeles International Auto Show set to open November 16 and run through November 25 at the LA Convention Center, concept cars from foreign automakers and hybrids of all flavors are set to be this year's show-stealers.
South Korea's major automakers, Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors, and GM Daewoo will all make their presence felt with concepts that run the gamut from sports cars to minis.
Hyundai will exhibit a sports concept called the Genesis Coupe, a rear-wheel drive model with a V6 generating 300 hp and capable of making the leap from 0 to 100km/h in six seconds. The sports car will be available in the United States and Canada in the first half of 2009.
Kia has two concepts to offer, the KND-4 and Soul, which are next-generation SUVs, while GM Daewoo will show off its mini (dubbed the Beat), which is destined for a global market by mid-2009.
Interestingly, the Beat is a three-door hatchback with front-wheel drive that first showed up at the New York Motor Show in April. The company plans a 1,000cc engine to make the tiny vehicle more robust for city driving.
Chrysler will introduce hybrid versions of its Aspen and Durango models while General Motors will unveil a full-sized hybrid Chevrolet Silverado as well as a hybrid Cadillac Escalade. Even Porsche is in the eco-trendy game with a hybrid Cayenne SUV.
Consumers and vehicle enthusiasts can expect a raft of car-related news and images coming out of the ten-day Los Angeles show.
