Your £250,000 Ferrari burning into flames – such a shame... Martin, 43 years old, was at the wheel of the 599 GTB Fiorano when it burst out into flames at the traffic lights. Firefighters quickly were on the scene, dousing the blaze – but the vehicle was wrecked.
Martin was left to tell this news to Paul Jaconelli, the owner of the supercar garage (in Surrey) Romans International in Banstead.
Paul, who had asked Martin to drive the motor to repairers, said yesterday:
“He rang me and said, ‘Your car’s just gone up in flames’.
“At first I hoped he was joking, but I soon realized he was serious.
“I asked him why it had happened and he said he had no idea.
“Martin’s worked here since he was 15 and he’s a great guy. It’s obviously not his fault – so I’m not going to hold it against him.”
This was caught on the camera by some stunned passer-by.
Paul, 58, continued: “Martin said the car made a noise at the lights, then just went up in smoke. It should be covered under warranty – but it wasn’t great news.”
