After their radio swearing fight in Hungary Lewis Hamilton says he apologized to Ron Dennis â his boss. Following the qualifying pitstop bungle on Saturday, they exchanged âfâ-words which finally cost McLaren 15 championship points and Fernando Alonso his pole position. The incident started because Hamilton continually ignored a radio order to let his Spanish teammate past in the âQ3Ⲡphase of qualifying, as Dennis and Alonso revealed to the Budapest press.
âI am in a lot of trouble with my boss,â before he won the race Hamilton told the British broadcaster ITV, although Alonso does not have âa great excuseâ for holding him up in the pits. Hamilton â the championship leader said after the incident that Alonso had not spoken to him, while Alonso revealed Spanish reporters that right now ânobodyâ in the team is maintaining communications with Lewis. Hamilton says heâs living in a difficult time within the Woking based team. âI went to my normal engineersâ meeting, and you can imagine the feeling; you feel like you have done something to them,â said the Briton. âIt does feel a little bit weird. Ron was obviously extremely angry with me at the time, I donât know if he still is. âItâs a difficult situation, but in the end you have to stand up for what you believe. âThe team (has since) explained it all and I apologized for the decision I took.â On Sunday, After winning following a close fight with Ferrariâs Kimi Raikkonen, Hamilton said that it had been an âemotionalâ 24 hours. âYou can imagine with all the drama that has happened over the weekend â itâs been a massive downer,â he continued. Given the repeated spy battle and then the qualifying ruckus, Dennis also recognized the âemptinessâ at the chequered flag,. âI am so drained, itâs difficult to have any emotion left,â said Dennis. Despite his protege scoring a third career victory, he didnât show any smile. He added that the saga has âcost us championship points, if we donât follow through with lodging an appealâ. Whether or not to appeal the stewardâs verdict from the peace of the McLaren factory this week, it will be his team decision, said Dennis.
