Volkswagen`s small auto architecture, which underpins today the VW Polo, Seat Ibiza plus Skoda Fabia, will be offering the all-wheel drive possibility for the next generation of Volkswagen group small vehicles.
"The new small-car platform architecture includes an all-wheel drive option," Erich Schmitt, the president of Seat affirmed. "Seat won鈥檛 offer awd for its new Ibiza, but other group models could use it."
The first use of the ultimate development of this platform, named PQ25, is for the all-new Seat Ibiza. The new-generation Volkswagen Polo will be the next unit later this year, followed by the brand new Audi A1 on late 2009.
The current variant of Volkswagen鈥檚 Cross Polo has now the looks of an awd crossover unit, but has front-wheel drive only. "Think of an awd option for the next generation Cross Polo, or next Audi A1," an Volkswagen group source affirmed. "And Audi already has an awd tradition anyway with its Quattro models."
