A new engine is tested by Ford. The start-up company at MIT has initiated an engine technology that injects small quantities of ethanol into the cylinder during high loads that should develop up to three times the torque of a standard petrol engine. In its quest for more efficient power-trains, Ford is investigating the technology and it鈥檚 just the beginning.
Now there are available much smaller engines but with the torque and power that buyers demand. A direct injection fuel injector pumps bits of ethanol into the cylinder, preventing knock, stopping the fuel-air mix from burning early. The new engine runs at much higher pressures but still on normal petrol.
More open to joint-ventures, working with suppliers, Ford will bring interesting innovations to market earlier, says Automotive News.
