At the Frankfurt Auto Show, Volvo will show a high-efficiency version of its C30. The modifications will yield an estimated 52 mpg.
The C30 will be powered by a 103 horsepower 1.6 liter turbodiesel mated to a new automatic transmission, reducing torque loss during upshifts. Volvo says the new gear box will increase efficiency by 8%. The technology, called Powershift, uses a dual-clutch system, similar to VW's DSG. It has low-friction tires and aerodynamic changes. The Powershift option will be available on the C30, S40 and V50 at the beginning of 2008.
