The Volvo name has been associated for a long time with safety, something the company will continue to offer, like a new set of equipment for safety in the XC70, S80 and V70 at the end of this year. Another change is the revised Collision Warning with Auto Brake–this will activates the brakes automatically if the driver can’t react to the warnings – Driver Alert Control and a Lane Departure Warning.
The Lane Departure Warning and Driver Alert Control will be in the same option package, named the Driver Alert System. This technology is the first in the world for a passenger auto. The system will detect when the vehicle is veering a lot and suggests the driver that he should take a break.
`Real life safety is the key to our safety philosophy. When it comes to preventive safety, we have the same approach as when we develop protective systems. In other words that our research and technical development focus on areas where new technology can create significant results in real-life-traffic` says the Director of the Volvo Cars Safety Center, Ingrid Skogsmo.
Researches show that up to 90%, the cause of all traffic accidents is the driver distraction.
