Canada`s General Motors wants to cut 1,000 jobs in Oshawa, Ontario at its truck plant starting with this January. The job cut is a result of the low sales. One shift of Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pick-up trucks production will be cut by GM, reducing the shifts from three to two - a premiere since the beginning of the 1990s. The factory employs over 3,000 workers.
This new information comes right after GM announced the cutting production at six plants, Oshawa included, last week. The slumping SUV and truck market is because of a slow housing market, tough competition and higher gasoline cost, according to Automotive News.
Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra sales fell to 26% and 28%, respectively, during July.
