GM will be freeze out overtime at six of its plants for North American SUV and truck for the rest of the year. The hour reduction is due to decreasing demand for the large autos; there are cautions about the cost of high fuel and a severe housing market. The cut downs will happen at GM's plants in Ft. Wayne, Ind.; Flint; Arlington, Texas; Oshawa, Ont.; Silao, Mexico; and Janesville, Wis.
Tom Wickham - GM spokesman said the car producer will manage the inventory levels on his own. Wicham added “With uncertain fuel prices, and significant competitive pressures in the segment, right now the concern is we want to make sure we manage inventory levels. We don’t want to let them get too high, where we have to put on too many incentives.” Compared to last year same period, GM's January-July U.S. sales on trucks are down with 9%, according to the Detroit Free Press.
