For the next-gen A, B and C-class models, Mercedes plans to outsource the transmissions production and wants to develop a dual-clutch 8-speed transmission. Mercedes`s hope is the 8-speed manumatic will give it the desired edge outclass the fully-automatic 8-speed transmissions that Lexus and BMW are offering (the launch is scheduled for 2009).
Even if Mercedes hasn鈥檛 chosen a supplier yet, everyone expects the transmission to be produced by ZF or Getrag. CEO Dieter Zetsche considers the development of new transmissions as non-core to Mercedes.
