Kimi Raikkonen emerged Formula 1`s surprise brand new world champion on Sunday as the favorite Lewis Hamilton hesitated in Brazil.
22-year-old Hamilton, with four points ahead Alonso and seven points ahead of Raikkonen going right into the 71-lap racing in scorching temperatures, with a bad start, then going off the circuit in his attempt to overtake Alonso.
He lost half a minute more a few laps later due a gearbox problem which was temporarily struck.
`Lewis has enjoyed phenomenal reliability from his car this year. It was just a default in the gearbox which selected neutral for a period of time but then sorted itself out` Ron Dennis – team boss told the British television ITV.
`It was so close, we needed just one car to stop. It`s hard to find the right words` he added.
`Hopefully all the rubbish that’s gone on in formula one this year will not be there next year` he said.
`Hamilton dream crushed` the Evening Standard reported.
`Dream over as Raikkonen lands title` said the Guardian.
