General Motors eliminating shift at the Pontiac Truck plant

GM will eliminate the second shift at the carmakers Pontiac Truck plant starting in May next year. The Pontiac Truck factory — the builder of GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado — will be idled because of a demand decrease for the full-sized pickup trucks.
General Motors didn`t mention how many employees would have to suffer due to the shift elimination, but it`s believed it will be as many as 900 of the factory`s 2,700 workers.
`We wanted to let employees know fairly early` a spokesman for GM – Tom Wickham told the Detroit Free Press. `Given the market conditions and sales figures in the full-size segment continuing to shrink we need to be smart about managing inventory levels`.
GM announced, earlier this week, the elimination of one shift in its Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center.
