Nissan could be selling a variant of an extremely low-priced auto in North America. Nissan would sell the $2,500 car first in India in 2010. If brought to America, the vehicle would likely cost starting from $3,000.
`The big question is: Can you have this car outside of India?` Carlos Ghosn – the Nissan CEO told Automotive News. `We don`t have enough data yet`.
He said possible countries for export include `mature markets — the United States and Canada, Japan and Europe`.
Obviously, the $3,000 auto will be bare-boned. `You need a frugal mind` Ghosn said. `You don`t need anything in the car that is not needed by customers`. Ghosn also affirmed that added safety options for U.S.-spec vehicles wouldn`t rise its cost. `But even if you reinforce a $3,000 car` he said, `you still can have a car around $3,000`.
