The Ford Escape Hybrid made its debut in 2004, and can be powered by gas or electricity. It is the hybrid version of the Ford Escape. The vehicle has a system that can help it change between diesel/gas and electric power or use a combination of both the fuels automatically. The name Hybrid is printed on the doors of the driver and passengers as well as the back. The vehicle runs on electric power on crowded city streets, and places where the vehicle has to keep stopping and starting. The battery of the vehicle gets charged when the vehicle is slowing down; braking or the V6 engine is on. The battery of the car is located in the storage area located in the back of the vehicle and does not occupy any area which would otherwise be used to store luggage. The electric and gas engines on the Hybrid give the same performance in terms of power as the regular Escape and the electric engine is much more efficient in terms of mileage then the regular Escape.
In the year 2007, the Ford Company added four versions to the Hybrid and three new outside colors. The Silver appearance Hybrid had door handles in the same color as the vehicle; and covers of the bumpers that are silver colored. There was the Silver appearance package which had the front made of silver and wheel moldings. Then there was a leather comfort group, which had seats made of leather and the steering wheel made of leather. Then there is the Premium package which has seats made of high quality leather, steering wheel in leather and a system to warn the driver about a danger posed when reversing the vehicle. The vehicle has a gauge that tells the driver when the vehicle is operating on battery power.
The Ford Escape Hybrid has been given a new look in 2008. The climate and music buttons have been placed at easily locatable points, the navigation system has been given DVD support. The engines whether electric or petrol remain the same, but the Hybrid is a bit tougher to handle as it is 300 pounds heavier then the regular Escape. The Hybrid is a four door vehicle which is available in Front wheel or all wheel drive systems.
