General Motors will offer the OnStar service in China. Being the first time available outside of North America, General Motors will cooperate with SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp.) — in a $46 million contact — to offer OnStar in the Chinese market.
GM will use OnStar to differentiate its products in the highly-competitive Chinese market.
General Motors will first offer the OnStar services in autos made by Shanghai GM — General Motors`s deal with SAIC — and it will include roadside assistance, automatic crash notification, car diagnostics and turn-by-turn navigation.
"China represents a huge opportunity to bring the safety, security, and societal benefits of OnStar to a whole new audience," said Chet Huber – the OnStar President.
OnStar provides in the present service to 5 million owners in Canada and the U.S.
