McLaren binds Lewis Hamilton to this team at least until 2012, inking a $138 US million deal with this British youngster. The British magazine News of the World says Hamilton, who on Monday turns 23, will make the average of over $27 million per season in the next five years, despite the fact he makes just $700,000 and some points bonuses racing to second place in 2007 at the drivers` championship.
The newspaper claims the McLaren driver`s usual 2008 salary will be of $17m, plus $6m if he will spearhead the Mercedes-powered teams`s first title since 1999 with Mika Hakkinen.
鈥淚鈥檝e always said I鈥檓 happy to stay at McLaren for the rest of my career if they want me to,鈥� said Hamilton, who moved recently to Switzerland for tax and personal purposes.
鈥淚 have a great relationship with the team having been with them for so long, right from my days in karting, and I鈥檓 ready to lead them on the track this year鈥�.
鈥淢y relationship with the team only grew stronger last year with all that happened off the track and the way they supported me in the final races鈥� he continued.
