BMW will reveal officially its Unite States-spec diesel-powered xDrive35d X5 SUV and the 335d sedan model later this month in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show. The cars will use the BMW technology of clean diesel — nicked BMW Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance.
Powering both X5 xDrive35d and the 335d will be the 3.0L diesel BMW inline-six — with Variable Twin Turbo Technology — having the output 265 hp and 425 lb-ft - torque. In 335d guise, this engine is good for a sprint of 0-62 mph in only 6.2 seconds. Despite the high level performance of the engine, it still makes 23/33 mpg city highway.
Both autos will be in the BMW U.S. dealerships at the end of 2008. The diesel powerplant is clean enough to deserve the 50-state certification.
