The Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup first came into the market in 1981, although the Ram name has been used since 1930. The Ram 1500 when introduced was meant to be a heavy vehicle able to carry a half ton load. The truck came in three types, a normal cab, extended cab and crew cab. The new truck had tail lights that were wrapped, headlights that were rectangular in shape, and new seating for those sitting with the driver. The trucks were powered by a choice of engines ranging from a 3.7 Liter V6, to 5.2 Liter V8 and a 5.9 Liter V8. In 1986 the 3.7 Liter V6 engine was replaced by a 3.9 Liter V8 and a computer was added to the engine system to simplify its operations. In 1991 Dodge redid the interior of the pickup truck. The rear shock absorber was redesigned so was the rear entry point.
The second generation Ram pickup truck was introduced in the year 1994 and it came in four versions. There was a work special, LT, ST and Laramie models. These pickup trucks were powered by 175 Horsepower V6, 5.2 Liter V8, 5.9 Liter V8, a 5.9 Liter Cummins diesel and a V10 engine. A Club Cab version of the Dodge Ram was introduced in 1995. The adding to the model line continued the next year when a vehicle meant for campers was introduced. 1997 though saw new models but the company added leather to its seats, entry without keys and a music system which could play both cassettes and CD. The Quad Cab version was brought in the year 1999, which had doors for better entry and exit for the rear passengers. The second generation Ram pickup truck was phased out in 2001.
The third generation Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup was restyled on entry in 2002. It was given two styles a regular and a quad style. It was available in three versions, ST, SLT and SLT plus. The truck is powered by a 3.7 liter V6, a 4.7 Liter V8 or a 5.9 Liter V8. In 2006 a Mega body was introduced which had a larger cabin. The new cabin had 44 inches of room to stretch ones legs while seated in the rear.
