The Dodge Magnum, when introduced in 1978 replaced the Charger. On introduction it came in two types, the XE and GT. The Magnum was powered by a 318 horsepower V8 engine and later 360 and 400 horsepower V8 engines were introduced. Though a year later the 400hp engine was stopped. The Magnum had headlights which were covered during the day, power steering, narrow windows and an on board computer. The GT version got a better engine an improved suspension and the GT name pasted all over the car body. The Magnum though fitted with the most modern features of its times faded out of the market in 1980s to be replaced by the Chrysler Cordoba.
After the name was in disuse for almost a quarter of the century, Dodge introduced a new Magnum model in the year 2005. The new car was introduced as a wagon and came in three versions, The SE, SXT and RT. All The three models had their own engines, with the SE powered by a 2.7 Liter V6, the SXT by a 3.5 Liter V6, the RT gets its power from a 5.7 Liter Hemi V8. All Magnums come as rear wheel drive versions unless one orders for an all wheel drive car. While The SE models are equipped with 17 inch tires, air conditioning, a system to play compact disks, it also does away with the need of keys to enter. The SXT has alloy wheels, anti-lock brakes and a glass in the car that protects ones privacy. The RT gets leather seats, 18 inch wheels and larger brakes.
For the model year 2008, The Dodge is available in one more version which is called the SRT-8. The SRT8 is powered by a more powerful V8 engine then The RT model. The SRT comes with 20 inch tires, leather seats that are powered, better suspension and newer brakes. The Dodge Magnum can seat the driver and four passengers in the front seat and there is enough room in the back to store luggage.
