The Dodge Durango made its debut in 1998 as a sports utility vehicle. The SUV was seen as a gap filler for the 1993 Ramcharger. The vehicle was marketed more like a truck as it could carry 7 passengers or 670 kilograms of luggage. Though this had an inherent disadvantage as the vehicle was unable to carry out its projected mission due to failure of its components and engine. Due to these problems The 4.7 liter V8 engine was replaced by a 5.2 Liter engine. The same year an R/T version of the Durango was introduced with a 5.9 liter engine.

In the year 2004, the second generation was introduced and came in five versions, including the base level Sport, SXT, SLT, SLT Plus and the R/T. The first four have a 4.7 Liter V8 engine and come with two wheels or part 4 wheel drive. The last has a 5.9 Liter V8 engine and a four wheel drive. The Durango has large switches which are easy to see and simple to use. The SLT, SLT Plus and the R/T can seat 7, while the use of a bench in the front of The SLT makes it possible to seat 8.

The latest Durango comes in three versions. The SXT, SLT and the Limited which one can get with a two wheel or 4 wheel drive options. The SXT and SLT versions have a 3.7 Liter V6 engine while the limited has a 4.7 Liter V8. The base SXT version is equipped with all power frills, air conditioning and a music system that can catch or AM/FM/CD music system. The SLT has a driver seat run by electrically, passengers in the back get air conditioning and a third seat which can seat 2. The Dodge Durango Limited gets leather seats, a third row of seats that can seat 3.
