After India amazed the world with its 2500$ car, the cheapest in history so far, it came the turn for another Asian country to take over this role: China America Cooperative Automotive presented at the Detroit Auto Show their latest vehicle-Chamco, a pick up truck with a low price of just 13,500$! China even has strong planes to bring the car to the U.S. market as well sometime in 2009- they even asked for the professional help of Steve Saleen to guide them through the federalization process.
However, the disadvantages of such a cheap pick-up can be seen on the interior of the car: due to the way it was made, built and due to the materials used, the interior reminds of the early days of 1985 (there is no cup holder in sight!). On the other hand the equipment on the outside of the car meet the market levels- power steering, windows, locks, mirrors-all as one would expect. The pick-up has a 2.7 liter four cylinder engine with 150 hp and a 180 lb-ft of torque. However, we should keep in mind that Toyota started just the same way and now it's making history.
