The Dodge Caravan is a minivan introduced in the year 1983 by Chrysler. The Caravan was based on the Chrysler K chassis. Though the caravan was the first of its kind vehicle launched, it lacked the flexibility of having the seats folded or the option of having the seats removed. The first generation Caravan was available in three model types, the base model, the SE and LE. The minivan was powered by a 2.5 Liter engine with a manual or automatic gear system as options. The company introduced a goods version of the vehicle in 1984, which was called The Mini Ram. The name of the minivan was changed to Caravan C/V in 1989 and its production was stopped in 1995. The production of the first generation Caravan was stopped in 1989 and the second generation vehicle was produced on the notorious K Chassis manufactured by Chrysler. The vehicle was available in four types, base, SE, LE and ES. On offer were three engines to power these vehicles. One had the choice between a 2.5 Liter, 3.0 or 3.3 liter engines. The new Caravans were available with the all wheel drive system.

The third generation the vehicle was introduced to the world in 1996. The new vehicle was sleeker in shape than its earlier body, had a driver's door that could slide and came in four different types. These models were introduced with a 2.4 liter engine that powered the entry level vehicle, while the other vehicle had V6 engines to power them. Caravans were available with airbags for all passengers and Anti braking system. The production of the third generation was stopped in 2000.

The fourth generation stepped into the market in 2001. The vehicle got a fresh look, better power but the body types of the newer Caravan stayed the same as that of the third generation. All Caravans now could seat seven passengers and the doors on both sides could be slid open. The main control panel of the van got changes, and now one had space in the back to keep some baggage. The Dodge Caravan in 2007 comes in two styles a SE powered by a 2.4 liter engine or a SXT that is powered by a 3.3 liter V6.
