BMW lost 470 autos, including 120 extremely damaged, in need for scrapping during the ocean transportation from Europe. The cars included the first set of BMW 1-series plus M3 vehicles coming to the US.
BMW of North America claimed the cars were on some container ship going to Port Newark-Elizabeth Marine Terminal - New Jersey. On Friday, Jan. 11the ship hit some rough water in the North Sea. Apparently the autos came loose, bouncing around and crashing into others.
BMW said it`s tabulating how many M3 and 1-series cars will be scrapped and whether this action will affect the dealer February revealing scheduled. In March, both autos will go on sale.
