The Dodge Caliber is a small car that was first introduced in 2006, replacing the Neon. It is a five door sedan which is powered by a 4-cylinder 1.8 or 2.4 Liter gas engine. The Caliber is being produced on the improved GS chassis, which has been renamed by the company JS for the middle size cars and PM for the small sized cars.
The Caliber is available in three model types in 2007 but a fourth is expected to be added to these three in 2008. The first is the entry level SE model. As the company has kept the cost of this model low, the car has not much in free added features to go with it. The SE is powered by a 1.8 liter engine which has a manual 5 gear system to go with it. People wanting to buy a little more powerful vehicle can get a SE model with a 2.0 Liter engine. Though the SE lacks an air conditioning system, or the standard one touch system to open or close the cars windows, doors or locks. The car is available with 15 inch tires. The SXT powered by the same SE engines has 17 inch tires, does away with the key to open the car, and has a rear seat that can be folded and one can connect using The Bluetooth technology. The R/T model has the same features as the SXT but has a 2.4 liter engine powering it. The only difference here is that it has chassis tuned to sports activities.
The vehicle is a good daily work car. It seats 5 people, but seating three adults in the back of the Caliber is not a good idea as there is a lack of room for 3 full-grown people to sit. Though if one pulls down the back seat, one can carry around 48 cubic feet of load. The SXT and R/T models have a small fridge that's kept in the glove compartment. The Dodge Caliber SE and SXT models come with disc brakes in the front and back of the car while the R/T comes with disc brakes in all 4 tires.
