Rumors inside Toyota actually claimed that the company is considering very serious to rejoin the Le Mans race in 2010 by betting on a hybrid version of either Lexus LF-A Lexus LF-A or if this should not be possible, they will consider the FT-HS hybrid version. It is worth mentioning that Toyota never won the race and has not competed since more than 5 years ago, in 1999. But nevertheless, if Toyota is planning a successful comeback they have to take into consideration that it will be competing with cars like Corvettes, Porsche 911s and Aston Martin which means that the standard is set very high!
Taking the example of Audi鈥檚 R10 TDI diesel race car, that actually remained undefeated in the American Le Man series from early 2006 until the spring of 2007, a Toyota official commented for Japan鈥檚 Yomiuri Shimbun that "Audi demonstrated the excellence of new generation diesel-powered cars through the Le Mans race. We want to do the same with our hybrid model." This will most probably mean that Toyota is considering two car versions: either they will go on the Lexus LF-A (which is claimed to be sold as a Lexus and this diminush its chances to the Le Mans race) or on the FT-HS hybrid, as mentioned in the begining of the news. If latter will prove to be the chosen way, rumors indicate that the vehicle will enter production the next year, in early 2009.
