The Alfa Romeo 169 will come in 2008. And it will share the platform with Maserati Quattroporte. The 169 will be replacing the 166, a vehicle that never had strong sales. It will compete with cars like Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class and the upcoming 2009 Porsche Panamera. The 169 is one of the autos that will be sold in America on Alfa Romeo`s return. The price will begin from approx 40,000 euro.
The 169 model will be Alfa`s first rear-wheel drive in almost two decades. With the base on the Quattroporte platform, 169 will have a longitudinal engine, RWD plus a trans axle gearbox, helping the weight-distribution. So, 169 will be a very good alternative to luxury sedans like Mercedes, BMW and Lexus.
The engine area will consist of V8 and V6 units, driving the rear wheels through the trans axle gearboxes. So, the engines will be: V6 engine 2.8 liter making 250 hp, V6 3.2 liter engine with 285 hp. V6 3.6 liter engine with the output of 320 hp, V8 4.3 liter engine at an output of 400 hp with 6300 rpm and 368 lbs-ft plus a V6 3.0 diesel engine having an output of 275 hp and 457 lbs-ft. The maximum speed will begin at 155 mph for the V6 2.8 liter engine and will rise to 175 mph for the V8 4.3 engine. The 0 to 60 mph lap will be made in exactly 6.1 seconds for the V6 2.8 liter engine and going up right to 5.2 seconds for the V8.
