Even though the official images will be made public just in 3 weeks from now in Chicago, few pictures of the up-coming Dodge Challenger leaked last week with no disguise (photos taken by leftanenews). The latest images show a production car very similar to the concept. However, the photos also confirm the addition of a b-pillar to the Challenger's structure. Less noticeable changes include more typical door handles, larger side mirrors, taillights that have been divided into sections and a simplified grille.
It seems that the first 5,000 units will all be SRT8 models with automatic transmissions and not manual transmition and V8 engine only as it was rumored before. These first car will begin production as early as March 2008 and will be sold as 2008 model year cars. After the initial production Dodge will be offering three versions of the Challenger as 2009 models. The base model will be powered by a 3.5L V6 and will be mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The 3.5L will be replaced by Chrysler's upcoming 4.0L Phoenix V6, but probably not until 2011.
A convertible option will also be available probably starting 2009 or 2010, with all three trim levels available. Manual transmition will include Chrysler's Hill Start Assist technology which has the capacity to maintain the brake pressure until throttle is applied. A Track Pack will also be offered in little time after Challenger鈥檚 first launch.
The pricing will start at 37,995 $ and orders have already started to be taken by the company. There are three colors available for the customers: Black, Silver or HEMI Orange with carbon fiber racing stripes. After the lauch of the SRT model, less expensive models will follow. Pricing for other Challenger models has yet to be unveiled, but an announcement is expected to be made in the summer of 2008.
