Low test performance from Tesla Roadster
|
The car we all have been waiting for quite a long time and whose debut was thought to be one of the most impressive, seemed actually to be really dissapointing as the previous engineering problems seems not to be solved till now and, at a first run, the vehicle does not meet its official performance claims. Tesla first announced that the car can easily drive on a single charge up to 220 miles on its ‘maximum range mode’ and 165 miles whilst in ‘standard mode’. However, Tesla Roadster was tested by the guys from Autoweek, and they only managed to get 93 miles out of the car before it went into a limp-home mode. Then there were the transmission problems, which included gearboxes not shifting gears or swapping cogs involuntarily.
On the other hand, the situation is not that bad as it looks at a fist glance. The tests mentioned above were made with the vehicle being driven near its limits. Tests done by other profile magazines got much better results when the car was driven at its normal parameters. Moreover, MotorTrend commented that Tesla has a “supple” ride and it benefits from “rapid” acceleration and it can easily be compared with very high standard cars like Ferrari or Porsche. Let’s just hope that the initial tests were not definitory for Tesla Roadster and there is much more to expect from this 98,000 $ vehicle.
