Fiat announced that it will debut a new dual-clutch transmission in September, 2009. The all new transmission — called Dual Dry Clutch — will be a member of Fiat`s family - C635 six-speed transmissions, which will include also a regular manual, as well as the automated manual transmission.
The transmissions will be made in Fiat`s Verrone factory, which will be capable of producing 800,000 cars annually by 2010. The C635 transmissions will find use in the Fiat Grande Punto and Bravo, and in the similar sized models too, from Alfa Romeo and Lancia.
A few other automakers, like Mitsubishi, BMW, Volkswagen and Volvo, are or will be making similar transmissions in the next years. The setup of dual-clutch allows an increase in both performance and the economy of fuel.
