There have passed months since we were teased with the new Challenger leaked images and spied photos, but now has come the moment to find out the official details about the new musclecar from Chrysler. The vehicle will be making its debut at the Chicago Auto Show this week, but it entered on sale since December 2007. The SRT8 variant will include a unique numbered dash plaque, carbon hood stripes and forged aluminum 20in alloys, while the power will be delivered by a 6.1L HEMI V8 engine complete with 425hp and 420lb-ft of torque. The SRT8 is the fourth car to be built on Chrysler鈥檚 LX platform, after the previous models of 300C, the Charger and the ill-fated Magnum.
The new Challenger can get to 60 mph in just five-seconds range and the 0-100-0 mph cicle can be hit in less than 17 seconds, 60-0mph braking distance of approximately 100ft and a skid pad performance of 0.88g. In the initial phase the vehicle will be available just with the five-speed automatic transmission option, but in the near future there will also be a six-speed manual option for the Challenger. The SRT8 version is not built to be just a simple musclecar, but also brings a lot of improvments regarding the in-car technology: GPS navigation, keyless start and entry, a MyGIG infotainment system and UConnect hands-free communication.
One can choose among just three different colors for the car, from the HEMI Orange to Bright Silver Metallic and Brilliant Black Crystal. The price will be close to 37,995 dollars and you should know that the car will be manufactured in Ontario, Canada at Chrysler鈥檚 Brampton as earlier the officials from the company already confirmed. However, no details were made public regarding the following regular Challenger models, which most probably will be available with both V6 and V8 powerplants.
