The Detroit Electric car was an early 20th century totally electric vehicle built by Anderson Electric Car Company over 100 years ago. In its epoch, the Detroit Electric was quite successfully and among its customers it is worth mentioning persons like Thomas Edison, Charles Proteus Steinmetz and Henry Ford鈥檚 wife, Clara.
To come back into the present, the alliance between America鈥檚 ZAP electric car company and China鈥檚 Youngman Auto plans to revive this vehicle for an entire line of new models set to hit the market starting 2009. First car to be build by their hands will be the ZAP Alias, an electric three-wheeler that can hit 0-60mph in 5.7 seconds and actually drive 150 miles on a single charge. The car is assumed a price of 30,000 dollars and further plans include two family sedans and a number of buses.
Moreover, as a tribute to the venture between this two important companies, there are plans to build a special edition electric vehicle based on the original Detroit Electric car. The cars will be manufactured in China by Youngman and will be dirstibuted in the U.S.A. by ZAP, which is also organizing the international distribution for its present and future models, which means that in the near future we will be able to enjoy an all-electric motoring as well.
