Porsche today unveiled the GT3 RSR, the strongest race auto based on Porsche 911. The most distinguishing part of the new RSR GT3 is the front end which presents major aerodynamics improvements. The majority of the innovations however are very much hidden under that weight-optimised body.
The GT3 RSR runs with a 3.8-litre boxer engine that makes 465 hp (342 kW) at 8,000 revs/minute and a top torque of 430 Nm at 7,250 revs. The boxer engine of the GT3 RSR remains unmodified apart from slight upgrades to details. The rev limiter of that efficient six-cylinder kicks right in at 9,400 rpm.
Much of all the know-how in the RSR GT3`s completely new gearbox has come from RS Spyder sports prototype. That sequential six-speed model, developed by engineers from Porsche, is considerably lighter than the old one. Internal friction was reduced substantially. The flat angle of all the drive shafts is allowing teams a larger suspension set-ups range.
Aside from GT3 Cup and GT3 Cup S, the RSR GT3 is the third race auto based on Porsche 911 offered by the Porsche Motorsport. Thirty-five models of the fastest and strongest long distance racer produced in Weissach, apart from the mighty exclusive RS Spyder sports prototype, are being produced now and delivered to buyer teams around the globe. The GT3 RSR costs 349,800 Euro plus VAT.
