GM says it will search global input for developing upcoming Cadillacs. General Motors will be taking a group of designers for tour China, Russia plus other developing countries. The next set of units will be developed for global buyers, not like its present autos that are made with Americans in mind.
Clay Dean, the new global design director at Cadillac said What we see happening in China is profound in terms of how quickly and exponentially the growth is happening. The luxury market is going to be big in China. It isn`t big there yet, but it will be big in the first and second-tier cities.
The first of the global products will be the rear wheel-driven large sedan introduced in 2011 or 2012. It would serve as replacement for DTS and STS models and would be competing with the BMW 5 series and Mercedes-Benz E class.
Cadillac`s direct competitors are global players. BMW, Mercedes and Audi make vehicles that are accepted worldwide, lot like Cadillac ones. One great example is BLS (both sedan and station wagon versions) which is facing difficult times in Europe. GM plans also to add a small rwd sedan - replacing the BLS around 2010 - targeted at the BMW 3 series. A small crossover all-wheel-drive inspired by Provoq Concept is on the cards also.
