On the 8th of February, a meeting between the officials from Tata Motors, Jaguar and Land Rover took place- it seems that the front-runner in the bid for the two British marques, Tata earned union support last year as it promised to maintain the five-year business plan already in place at the brands. There are also rumors regarding the union, called Unite, on the possible closure of some plants or reduction of staff in order to help rejuvenate the brands financially. 鈥淲e will be restating our requests for guarantees on sourcing, pensions, and the future of individual plants. These guarantees have already been given by Tata, but we will ask for them to be minuted.鈥� commented for the British Financial magazine, Roger Maddison, the union鈥檚 automotive national officer.
However, once the aquisition was completed, there is still much to be done- nevertheless, the brands seem to be on the up, mostly with Land Rover achieving record sales and with the very promising reviews of the Jaguar XF sedan. Even though Mahindra & Mahindra and One Equity Partners still remain as other potential buyers, Ford has released a statement saying they are closely working with Tata Motors only.
