Spy photographers have captured the first photos ever of the future Lamborghini Gallardo LP550, which will debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The auto — painted orange but nearly covered in black tape completely — is said to have its power from a 5.2-liter V10 making 550 horsepower with 390 pound-feet of torque. The added power there should help maintain the separation between Gallardo line and Audi R8, which will get a less powerful V10 engine for an all-new top-of-the-line unit.
Along with the brand new engine will be coming improved manual plus sequential gearboxes. The all-wheel-drive system is believed to be improved also. To cope with this added power, the body structure has been reinforced.
Visually, the LP550 model has a strong revised exterior with all new front and rear styling. So, the interior and the overall body shape are believed to be mostly unchanged.
A few of the improvements on the Gallardo — including gearboxes and the rear suspension — are likely to derive from the R8 at Audi. Although this less expensive R8 has the base from the Gallardo, it made actually several platform improvements. These improvements, obviously, will be carried over now, and in some of the cases, constructed upon.
