Chevrolet TrailBlazer

First introduced in 1999 as an up-scale trim version of the Chevrolet Blazer, the Chevrolet Trailblazer is a mid-size SUV that had come into a name of its own in 2002. The Trailblazer has become a rugged, roomy, and powerful form of transportation.

Built on a truck platform and available in four wheel drive, the Trailblazer has consistently maintained a rather muscular appearance both inside and out, though throughout the years refined features have been added to make the interior more comfortable and the exterior more visually sophisticated. Definitely built for the off-road adventurer, this vehicle is a favorite with rock hoppers everywhere.

Noteworthy accolades bestowed upon the Chevrolet Trailblazer include the 2002 North American Truck of the Year award. In addition, the powerful and pioneering 4.2 liter I6 Atlas LL8 engine was recognized by Ward's as the Best Engine in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Until the 2007 model year, the Trailblazer was available as an EXT model, which provided 3rd row seating, ample head and leg room for seven passengers and was 16 inches longer than the standard Trailblazer. However, due to the closure of the plant that produced the EXT, the last Trailblazer EXT's were produced in 2006.

The new Trailblazer is available in two trim levels, the LT and the SS. The sportier designed SS comes standard with eye catching 20" six spoke aluminum wheels and a 6.0 liter LS2 V8 engine with 390 horsepower. The 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer LT comes standard with a Vortec 4.2 Liter I6 engine that generates 285 horsepower, making this engine unsurpassed in its class.

Although the beefier engine in the Chevrolet Trailblazer SS is capable of a maximum trailer weight of 6600 lbs, the amount of gas consumed by the V8 engine hardly makes it worth the difference you will pay at the pump, and in the price of the vehicle itself unless you really need that type of power. The 4.2 L I-6 engine in the Trailblazer LT has a maximum trailer weight of 5700 lbs and is more than adequate for most towing needs.
