Due to great demand, Fiat decided to be increasing the capacity for its 500 minicar up to 190,000 units per year. By the beginning of March, 500 capacity at Tychy, Poland, assembly factory will rise to 750 models a day from 500 autos initially planned.
For this remake of the iconic minicar, Fiat planned 120,000 models in the first full year, meaning 2008. Fiat said it has received for the 500, 160,000 dealer orders between the July 2007 presentation to the end of January.
For 2007, Fiat planned on building 58,000 models of the 500. Last year, Fiat made 65,525 vehicles of the 500 model, according to UK market researcher J.D. Power Automotive Forecasting.
And of those, 42,470 units were sold to final buyers last year, according to JATO Dynamics - UK-based market researcher. Fiat affirmed it invoiced 58,846 models to the dealers in the calendar year.
So, next year Fiat will be unveiling a convertible variant and in 2010 a station wagon unit right after.
