Right after Tata revealed the $2,500 micro auto, BMW, the Bavarian carmaker, is planning on releasing a new micro auto in India, and more exactly a luxury variant of the micro auto class. Aeter Kronschnabl, the President of BMW India, thinks that the manufacturer completed a market analysis already but he could unveil the exact date when the vehicle would be debuted.
BMW could now consider to redevelop the classic microcar made at the beginning of the 50s Isseta, but this entire issue remains still just a rumor. Peter Kronschnabl affirmed that this microcar would be priced at about 2,000,000 Indian Rupees (+-$50,000 on the current rate of exchange) and will definitely not be intended for competing with Tata Nano. The Bavarians didn鈥檛 want to unveil the size or any other details of the auto but according to the leaked information the car will have its base on exactly the same platform of the present Mini Cooper.
"There are no plans to develop a Micro Car competing with the Tata Nano. Currently, BMW is thinking within a special project about several different ways and opportunities for the future mobility, but it鈥檚 far too early to comment on any details, neither the size of these different concepts nor engine, price or anything like that" affirmed Peter Kronschnabl at the BMW M3鈥檚 launch on the market in India.
