Today Volkswagen announced that its ESP (Electronic Stabilization Program) will be basic equipment on every single 2009 model year Volkswagen unit – passenger autos, sport utility cars and minivans. By offering the ESP as a basic feature, Volkswagen is now the first non-luxury manufacturer to be including an electronic stabilization system with no additional cost on every auto it sells – well ahead of the NHTSA’s (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) deadline requires all 2012 model year cars to have these systems.

CEO. “ESP has been available on all Volkswagens in the US for several years. Now, making ESP standard across our entire line reinforces Volkswagen’s commitment to safety for all our customers, and further shows why we are a market leader in offering some of the safest vehicles on the road today”.
NHTSA predicts almost 10,000 lives could be saved every year if all carmakers included electronic stabilization systems as basic equipment.
Volkswagen’s ESP system is using a number of electronic auto controls, making a safe vehicle even safer and helping the driver maintaining control of the car during dynamic driving conditions. This ESP system is working in conjunction with the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), ASR (Anti-slip Regulation), components of the EDL (Electronic Differential Lock) system plus additional sensors.
