Most vehicles at auto shows are quite gleaming and polished, except this one – a Ford Taurus model that crashed into a wall (1 million pound) at 35 mph on the route to Jacob Javits Convention Center. And all of this… deliberately.
Ford wants that the visitors of International Auto Show in New York to see how this Taurus unit – rated ‘Top Safety Pick’ by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) – fared in this crash test of 35 mph. Positioned in exactly the same place that was occupied by the seated dummy crash-test, show goers view video of the actual crash test.
“We want people to see what happens in the blink of an eye,” affirmed Stephen Kozak, North American chief engineer in safety at Ford Motor Company. “We want to open people’s eyes that not all cars are created equal when it comes to safety. There is a difference and we want to show why Taurus is the safest rated large sedan sold in America”.
“A crash can happen to the best of us, and it may happen before you have time to react,” Kozak continued. “So we believe the best way to react is to buy the car equipped to help protect you when the unexpected happens”.
The IIHS gives Taurus high marks also – “Good” ratings – for the frontal, rear and side impacts.
