Pontiac will add a Sport Truck version to its G8 line for the 2010 unit year, the firm announced it Friday. A pre-production variant of the vehicle-based pickup will be on the display at the New York Auto Show next week. The G8 ST model won`t be found until late 2009.
Having the base on the Holden Ute model sold in Australia, this G8 ST is the first auto-like pickup truck that will be sold in the US in decades.
"Pontiac has never shied away from offering segment-defining vehicles, going back to the original GTO," said Jim Bunnell, the Buick-Pontiac-GMC general manager.
"There's simply nothing else like the G8 sport truck on the road today, and we definitely believe that there are customers who will be excited by its distinctive design, performance and cargo capabilities".
The name for the G8 ST is not final, but will be decided instead by GM based on buyer feedback. The firm has set up a website so the consumers can submit proposed names for the auto. The winning one will be announced on 15 of April.
The G8 sport truck's Blaupunkt 230-watt AM/FM/six-disc CD changer presents an MP3 input plus five speakers. The audio 6.5-inch display controls both climate and sound control systems.
