Some time ago we were presenting you the story of Spider variant of the R8 supercar. In that article we were telling you also that starting next year R8 will offer two different body variants: coupe and spider, and both features a three engines choice.
One of them, this RS8 model is set to be revealed next year. Audi denied last year the existence of an upcoming V10 engine in the R8 supercar just because the firm couldn鈥檛 provide the necessary cooling for the V10 twin-turbocharged in the R8 supercar, suggesting an updated V10 5,2-litre (based on the existing V8 4,2-liter) could be a really viable option for this flagship unit.
But this one was last year! Audi official confirmed now that 鈥淭he cooling is no problem now. The car is now signed off, and will appear during the second quarter of 2009. I can鈥檛 say much about it until then,鈥� he added 鈥� confirming the auto鈥檚 engine origins. 鈥淲hy would we spend money developing a whole new engine for this car, when we already have such a good one鈥� said Wolfgang Hatz.
The engine for the V10 will have a six-speed manual- or an optional sequential R-tronic gearbox, and will be helping the RS8 model to make the 0 to 60 mph lap in less than 4,0 seconds, 0-100 mph in just 8,5 seconds and hit a maximum speed comfortably with 198 mph in excess.
