Despite this positive outlook for the U.S. operations of Suzuki, Rick Suzuki – the American Suzuki Chairman announced that he will be stepping down as firm head. Suzuki, at 60, is indeed the grandson of Michio Suzuki, the founder of Suzuki Motor Corp., and he headed the American operations for Suzuki since 1998.
Suzuki announced last Friday in a letter for the employees of American Suzuki. Suzuki cited poor earnings and sales under his leadership - his reason for this resignation.
In this letter, Suzuki announced also that the carmaker will be reducing its workforce in U.S. by 55 employees via a voluntary retirement wrap.
According to Automotive News, the American Suzuki made in 2003 a five year goal to sell 200,000 cars and 300,000 motorcycles plus ATVs in the United States, but has just attained around half that volume on both categories.
Suzuki unveiled recently the Kizashi 3 Concept at the Auto Show in New York, a car that should hit the market in America in 2010 and likely will get Suzuki closer to the goal of 200,000 sales.
