Maybe not all the people knew, but 25 years ago this iconic GTI Pirelli Golf edition was introduced in the UK. The auto has as you figured out Pirelli tyres but especially that ‚P’ alloy wheels. Today apparently the German car manufacturer chooses to be rewriting the history by debuting the VW Golf GTI Pirelli 2008 edition in the UK.
Originally introduced in 1983 May the GTI Pirelli has the base from the MkI Golf and featured distinctive Pirelli ’P’ alloy wheels. The auto proved to be an instant success with its planned production run of only 10,500 cars selling out in six-months.
For this year the GTI Pirelli returns to the United Kingdom. Based on this MkV GTI bodyshell the brand new vehicle has up rated dynamics and aesthetics, distinguishing it from the normal car.
At its heart is some enhanced variant of the 2.0-litre T-FSI engine having its output raised from the basic 200 PS to 230 PS. The drive is channeled through a six-speed manual choice or the twin-clutch DSG gearbox. The all-new GTI Pirelli reduces the basic car’s 0-62 mph time of 7.2 seconds down to 6.8 seconds while the maximum speed rises from 146 mph up to 152 mph.
