The IS-F sports sedan by Lexus (competitor for the BMW M3, Audi RS4 and Mercedes C63 AMG) isn`t the only attempt for Lexus to enter the sports-auto market. In the future, this `F` will denote the performance tuning of Lexus. Other units destined for this treatment include the GS and, perhaps, the full-size limo LS.
Lexus will add a new model also below the IS, that’s intended as entry-level sedan or a hatch to compete with the BMW 1 Series or the Audi A3.
The LF-A super unit will go in production —in 2011 possibly — although it might be made in left-hand drive only.
In 2009 Lexus will reveal the next-generation RX of crossover SUV, following some taster concept that was at the 2007 motor show Tokyo. Starting next year also, a hybrid power train will be available soon on every unit and Lexus now plans to show a pure, untainted hybrid concept at the Detroit show next year. This will be a kind of "Prius" although it is not confirmed for production yet.
