Spy photographers once again have spotted a prototype of the upcoming-generation Porsche 911 while it’s out testing. As the previous spy photos have shown, the update of the 911 will be more evolutionary if you want rather than revolutionary — which’s par for the course for this 911 nameplate.
So, on the 911's exterior, the rear and front fascia should see some slight revision, including brand new LED lights plus an exhaust system.
But under this 911 unit's skin is where the real upgrade lie. According to Car, 911's 3.6L and the 3.8L Boxer-six engines will be receiving the same direct-injection system that Porsche added to its Cayenne SUV last year. In SUV guise, this addition of direct-injection has resulted in a 10-15 percent raise in horsepower and torque, plus also an increase in the economy of fuel. The changes to this 911's mill should bring similar results.
Car also affirms that the next 911 model — expected to come to light this fall — finally will receive a dual-clutch gearbox. This new system — called Porsche Doppel Kupplungen, or PDK for short — will be apparently derived from the famed line of DSG gearboxes Volkswagen.
Porsche hasn’t given yet any performance on the all-new car, but some announcement is expected at one of the future auto shows.
