Volkswagen will reveal in 2010 the production variant of the Up! Concept. It will compete with Fiat 500 and the brand new Toyota iQ. Up was first debuted as a concept auto last year at the Motor Show in Frankfurt. It features a super-compact, rear-engined, rear-wheel-drive power train, promising to be amazingly environmentally friendly, having low emissions of CO2.
The production variant will maintain all the stand-out style and cheekiness of the concept. And that is no surprise; the bosses at VW have always stated that the production up! would appear virtually identical to the unit seen on the stands in Frankfurt.
It will be found in both in petrol or diesel variant, and have a capacity of about 600cc. Both models are likely to be turbocharged, plus Volkswagen is targeting CO2 emissions at less than 100g/km and mixed fuel economy of 94mpg. So a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol motor is too under consideration.
The production variant Up! will be offered to the customers in both three and five-doors variant; but a MPV model will follow at a later date. The hybrid version is under consideration also.
